CoolPad in the past has launched many smartphones which are value for money. Now they have exclusively launched a new smartphone in the Indian Market. This phone is the latest one in their note series, the CoolPad Note 5. We have explored this device in detail and have made some analysis and opinions about the device.
CoolPad Note 5 Review
Design
There is a Hybrid Dual SIM slot. So there is a Nano+Micro SD/Nano slots in the smartphone. The device has a weight of 173.4g and has dimensions of 152 x 75.7 x 8.85mm. In terms of looks the device looks like a premium device. The laminated display is supported by bezels around it. The user can see a front camera above the screen with LED flash support. Below the screen there are capacitive buttons for Back, Home and Recent Apps functions.
There are curved edges on both sides and there is a metallic rim which can be seen around the boy of the smartphone. There is a Power/Lock Button on the right hand side, Volume Rocker buttons are on the left hand side. On the top of the phone we can see the headphone jack and there is a microUSB port at the bottom for the USB file transfer and charging the smartphone. The phone fits well in the hand and gives a decent grip.
At the back we can see the rear flash camera with dual LED flash. There is also a circular fingerprint sensor. It helps you to unlock the phone even when the screen is locked by just placing your finger on the fingerprint scanner. Overall design looks premium of the handset.
Display
The phone has a 5.5 inch display with a FHD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. There is a laminated display with scratch resistant glass layer on top. The default background image of the tiger looks very realistic. The display gives life to the images for sure.
Memory
This device has 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and there is a microSD card support of upto 64GB. While using the UI there was no lag at all. We tried many transitions and the phone did responded well indeed. This phone is powered by a 1.5GHz Octa Core Snapdragon 617 Processor.
Software
It uses the Android 6.01 Marshmallow with the Cool UI 8.0. Adding widgets is now a simpler task in the phone. After long pressing anywhere on the home screen widgets can be added. Loads of things are customizable in terms of apps orientation and widgets appearance in the home screen. There is a also an in-built feature where the user can operate multiple whatsapp and facebook accounts. This is something useful for the users indeed.
There are many pre-installed apps like the WPS Office, Zuimei Weather, UC Browser and many more. The overall UI was user friendly for sure.
Camera
It has a 8MP of front camera with f/2.2 aperture, 80.1 degree wide angle lens with LED Flash. The phone has a 13MP of rear camera with LED Flash. It has 5P lens, f/2.2 aperture and there is an option for 1080p video recording as well. It also has a CMOS sensor. There is a Pro mode in the camera, Beauty Mode and also the Photo mode. The photos were satisfactory indeed.
Connectivity
The device has Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG Support, Wi-Fi Connectivity, 3G, 3G and 4G VoLTE.
Battery
The phone has a battery capacity of 4010 mAh. The battery performance was supreme. So with average use the phone can be used for 2 days with ease after full charge of the smartphone.
Final Verdict
The phone`s importance lies in the 4GB RAM, UI, Full HD display and a premium design at a price of Rs.10,999. This is a phone with excellent battery life offered in the price. If you want a decent performance smartphone with good battery CoolPad Note 5 should be yours.
