RoboSense company and Alibaba Group’s Cainia Network have jointly announced about G Plus. This is the world’s first solid state LiDAR unmanned logistics vehicle. It was announced at the Alibaba’s Cainiao Network 2018 Global Smart Logistics Summit. Let us have a look at the features of this device.
G-Plus by RoboSense and Alibaba
This device provides the solid-state LiDAR technology, RS-LiDAR-M1Pre which is developed by China’s Robosense. This is the first time that solid state LiDAR has been used in the development of the unmanned vehicle.
This will be helpful as they will be providing this solution for unmanned logistics cars/trucks which will reduce the cost drastically. This device Alibaba Cainiao G Plus has 3 RS-LiDAR-M1Pres, 2 in front and 1 in rear to get the most powerful 3D perception for driving. This helps in to know the direction of travel, distance, shape, travel speed, azimuth, and direction of travel of cars, pedestrians, trucks, etc. So it shows the exact areas to drive, which ensures smooth flow of unmanned logistics vehicles in very much complex road conditions.
This RS-LiDAR-M1Pre is the first MEMS solid-state LiDAR by the company RoboSense. It was presented in CES 2018, the MEMS LiDAR technology is very much disruptive than the traditional mechanical multi-beam radars.
RS-LiDAR-M1Pre-MEMS micro mirror scanning scheme needs only a few laser emitters and receivers to scan the MEMS micro-mirror in both directions because of the swing angle. It provides high resolution and vertical angle resolution of 0.2 degree throughout angle of the view.

If we use the traditional mechanical multi-beam LiDAR for the same effect then it will require more than a hundred laser transmitters and receivers to scan and rotate simultaneously. It increases costs and reducing yield of reliability. This MEMS solid state LiDAR technology will be the perfect fit for the use in such unmanned vehicles. It improves the performance of LiDAR and cost of savings and also improves the stability and miniaturization.
This is a very much upgraded technology which is used by Alibaba to manufacture the new autonomous robots for the logistics. The package locker also uses facial recognition so that it identifies the user to open the lock of its doors. This unmanned robot will have a speed of 10 miles per hour and can deliver various kinds of packages including food. Alibaba and Robosense are testing this device in their headquarters in Hangzhou and will start making them by end of the year 2018.
