Huawei P8 and P8 Max smartphones launched

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei has launched two new smartphones; the P8 and the P8 Max. Both the phones run on Octa-core processors and come with android lollipop out of the box. The P8 is priced at EUR 500 which is approx. 33k and the P8 max at EUR 550 which is approx. 36k.

The P8 and P8 max share the same processor, the HI Silicon Kirin 64 bit 930/935 octa core (1.4GHz quad core + 2/2.2 Ghz quad-core). The GPU is Mali T628 MP4. Both phones come in 16 GB or 64 GB models, with no separate micro-SD slot. The two phones share most of their other features, like 3 GB RAM, and the 4160 x 3120 pixels, 13 megapixel Sony primary camera, with auto focus, OIS, and LED flash. Both phones have gorilla glass protection for the screens.

The P8 has a 5.2 inch JDI IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It comes with a formidable 8 MP secondary camera. The dimensions of the P8 are 144.9 x 72.1 x 6.4 mm (5.70 x 2.84 x 0.25 in). It runs on a non-removable 2680 mAh battery and weighs 144 g. The 16 GB P8 is available in Titanium Grey, Mystic Champagne colors, and the 64 GB model in Carbon Black and Prestige Gold.

The P8 Max has a JDI IPS LCD screen with a screen size of 6.8 inches. The screen resolution is same as the P8, 1080 x 1920 pixels. In addition to the 13 megapixel rear camera, the P8 Max has a 5 MP front camera. The dimensions of the P8 Max are 182.7 x 93 x 6.8 mm (7.19 x 3.66 x 0.27 in). It runs on a non-removable 4360 mAh battery and weighs 228 g. Luxurious Gold, Mystic Champagne, Titanium Grey are the colors available for the P8 Max.

Both the phones have two SIM card slots, both for nanoSIM. Key features the two phones possess are 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with GLONASS and NFC. The phones come equipped with Emotion 3.1 UI, which is the custom Android skin launched by Huawei. The interface is said to be based on Android Ice-cream sandwich. The phones also come equipped with Huawei’s new features like knuckle sense technology, and remote voice activation.

The looks of the P8 are very similar to the iPhone 6, except for a few port locations. The FHD screens seem good and sharp, although arguably not as good as Quad HD displays. Although the P8 and P8 Max come without a separate SD card slot, the second SIM card slot can be used as a micro SD card slot.

This makes the 64 GB model slightly redundant. The previously unheard of company Huawei is now the fourth- largest seller of smartphones in the world. The P8 and P8 Max are available in the market at EUR 500(33k approx.) and EUR 550(36k approx.) respectively.

Intex Aqua Speed HD, Xtreme V and Aqua Y2+ launched

Intex, in 2014 revealed their Firefox system-based mobile phones and keeps hitting the market with smartphones every now and then. Intex has now listed three new smartphones, the upped versions of Aqua Speed, Aqua Xtreme and the Aqua Y2, Aqua Speed HD, Aqua Xtreme V and the Aqua Y2+ respectively.

Intex Aqua Speed HD released April 2015 houses a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M processor and offers 2 gigs of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. With an expandable memory upto 32GB users won’t have to worry about the device running out of space.

Intex Aqua Speed HD has a rear camera of 8MP and front camera of 5MP. Running Android version 4.4 KitKat, it is also supported by Java. A screen size of 4.7” with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels seems satisfactory. Weighing 120gms, 8.95mm thick and being powered by a 1700mAh battery.

Intex Aqua Speed HD also has a dual SIM feature with 3G. By default, it comes with Sashakt Women Safety app. The phone comes with OneDrive which will give 50 GB of free storage for two years. It comes in three colors, white, silver and sea blue and is priced at Rs. 8,999.

Intex Aqua Xtreme V, released on March 2015 weighs around 120gms and driven by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor with 2 gigs of RAM and 16GB of ROM onboard and draws its power from a 2000mAh battery. Screen size is 5” with resolution of 720×1280 pixels.

Back camera of 13MP and front camera of 5MP will make for a decent experience. Running Android 4.4 KitKat, with Java support and dual SIM capacity with 3G, Intex Aqua Xtreme V is priced at Rs. 11,290 and comes in black, grey and red.

Intex Aqua Y2+ stocks a Spreadtrum 1.2GHz quad-core processor running Android 4.4.2 with 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM and 32GB expandable. It has a 4” screen of a resolution of 480×800 pixels. A 5MP camera on the rear and a 1.3MP on the front are good enough for a lower mid range smartphone.

About 9.7mm thickness and weighing around 100grams, it drives its charge from a 1500mAh battery. Aqua Y2+ is an upgraded version of the Aqua Y2. Also with dual SIM features including 2G, 3G and GPS, Intex Aqua Y2+ comes in blue, black and white variants and is priced at Rs. 5,190.

Intex has given its customers three phones from the lower midrange to the higher midrange with a good amount of features and smart looks. All three phones being upgraded versions of their predecessors don’t seem to have major changes made to them.

Aqua Speed HD has a 0.2” increase in its screen size and resolution from 540×960 pixels to 720×1280 pixels. Aqua Xtreme V has a lower cost, Aqua Xtreme being priced at Rs. 13,999 and Xtreme V at 11,290. Aqua Y2+ has a lower RAM capacity with a dip from 1GB in the Aqua Y2 to 512MB in the newer model.

LG Volt mobile launched in Korea

LG has launched its new smartphone for the Korean market; the LG Volt with a 64 bit QUALCOMM snapdragon processor running on android lollipop. The phone was launched for Korean Won 200k which translates to about 11,500 rupees. The LG Volt is available with a 4.7 inch screen.

Along with the quad-core 64 bit qualcomm snapdragon processor, it has an Adreno 305 GPU. The phone has 4.7 inch gorilla glass screen and a curved display. It has HD (720×1280 pixels) resolution display with pixel density of 312ppi. It houses an 8 megapixel rear camera LED flash, in addition to a 1 megapixel secondary camera. The internal storage memory is 8 GB, along with a microSD card slot with extendable memory up to 32GB.

The LG Volt is equipped with a 2100 mAh battery capacity, and weighs 119 g. The dimensions are 133.30 x 66.10 x 9.90. The usage time along with 3G is expected to be 24 hours. The other features of the LG volt include 4G LTE, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 and micro-USB. The phone has a single sim card slot.

The LG volt is identical to the LG spirit, which with its 1.3 GHz processor differs from the Volt only in one aspect. The Volt runs on snapdragon 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. The LG Spirit was launched in India at 14,250 last month. During the initial unveiling, LG announced that the phone would be available in 2 processor varieties; 1.3 GHz with 1 GB ram, which it launched in February, and 1.2 GHz.

The LG Volt is among a wide variety of mid-range smartphones that come from LG, including the LG Joy, LG Leon, and LG Magna. LG Magna also has a curved display similar to that of the Volt.

The LG Volt contains all the features necessary in a good mid-range phone and at priced 11,500 seems like a good buy.

The new Lenovo A6000 Plus announced April 2015, and expected to be released in the same month, has a good variety of features for a midrange smartphone. Lenovo released its predecessor, the A6000 in the month of January of this year and has made improvements in the memory storage and RAM in this new sleek 5” display upgraded version.

It is very much like the previous version with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 400 MHz Adreno 306 GPU. With the increase in RAM, A6000 plus is sure to satisfy its users. With dual SIM capability and GSM, HSPA and LTE network technologies for 2G, 3G and 4G respectively and provides download speeds up to 150Mbps.

The phone being 8.2mm thick and weighing a light 128gms appears to be sleek and flawless. The camera is also the same as of the prior version, 8MP rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash and 2MP front-facing camera, will provide good photo quality.

The upped version runs the same Android version 4.4 KitKat with Lenovo Vibe UI and draws its power from a 2300mAh battery. Also comprises of dual speakers with the Dolby Digital Plus and a normal 3.5mm jack for headphones. With 2 gigs of RAM and 16 GB of ROM, users will surely have an improved multitasking experience and greater data storage.

The A6000 has had a few problems, with its screen mainly; Lenovo probably addressed to it, made some improvements and gave us this great phone. As they publicize this new and upgraded version of the A6000, the A6000+ is hitting the market in the month of April 2015.
