10 battery saving tips for your Android smartphone

Human one of the most intelligent species on earth. Human brain can learn, innovate, discover, and create the finest and can produce the most beautiful things out of the raw material in nature. But as other animals our body needs fuel to work, to think, to innovate and to inspire. And that is fuel is the food that we consume daily. Unlike green plants we cannot prepare our food by photosynthesis process or any other. So we consume the energy by eating other plants or animals.

All the types of energies that we are using on earth muscular energy, tidal energy, chemical energy, energy from fossil and fuels and solar energy are the direct or indirect result of the energy that is provided to us by the SUN. So the Sun is responsible for all the energy transverse on the Earth.

As we all know our companion of the modern world our smartphone also needs an energy source and that energy source is the battery that is there in the phone. But according to our use, the battery is generally not sufficient to work for the whole day. So sustainable use of battery is very important. So today we are going to discuss some of the best ways to use our battery to make it long lasting.

10 battery saving tips for your Android smartphone

1. Wallpaper should be simple and dark

Many of us don’t know that the animated wallpapers and moving wallpapers will consume twice as much as battery that a dark non animated and non-moving wallpaper will consume. And one of the biggest reason that our battery drains is the large and bright screen that we use in the smartphones. So try to use a simple and dark wallpapers as the brightness will be low so your battery will drain slowly.

2. DU Battery Saver & Phone Charger

3. Clean Master (Boost & AppLock)

4. Decrease the screen time out

As all of us don’t have the habit of locking the phone as soon as we are finished using it. So especially for such users we should decrease the screen time out. It is the time after which phone will be automatically locked after when we are stopped interacting with it. So we should keep it minimum for using our battery smartly.

5. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and 3G/4G if you’re not using them

Many of us are using the wireless services almost every time so we forget to switch these services even when we are not using them. Wireless services like wi-fi, Bluetooth and 3G and 4G are one of the most vulnerable battery drainers. So make this a habit to switch these services off while you are not using them.

6. Disable GPS if you are not using it

Another biggest reason we drain our battery is the GPS service that we are using so please use the GPS service only when you require it. If you GPS is on many apps are using it simultaneously and at every point of time your phone will detect where you are and will report the same to all the apps and this will surely drain a lot of battery.

7. Use the Doze

In smartphones we have a new feature called doze. So if you enable the doze feature it will hibernate all your apps if you are not using your phone for some prolonged time. The benefit of this feature is that your phone will sleep when you will be sleeping and will drain 2-3% battery only instead of 25-30% as earlier.

8. Snapdragon™ BatteryGuru

10 battery saving tips for your Android smartphone

Battery guru is one of the best app that tells you the best way to save the battery. It give the detailed analysis where the battery is drained most and it also helps to close such apps.

Google Play

9. TRY to Maintain Cool Temperature

Don’t leave your battery in direct sunlight or any place with high temperature as we know the battery works best in cool places and will drain out with a very fast rate if used in a hot atmosphere or if it is in direct contact with sunlight. Our most common mistake is to keep the phone in a car parked in direct sunlight. So try to avoid such mistakes.

10. Use battery case

In the last case when all these tricks are not working for you. You can use the battery case it is a case which charge your battery while you are using the phone many companies are launching the types of case nowadays.

Myths regarding battery saving

  • Force closing and relaunching an app drains more battery: it might sound a good idea to force closing the apps to save the battery but in real if you relaunch that app it would technically drain more battery.
  • Wi-Fi can work as GPS sometimes: Yes if your Wi-Fi connection is good enough than instead of using a GPS your phone might use the Wi-Fi connection to get your location and that will save battery.
  • Disabling some apps like Siri and google now don’t help at all: many apps don’t even matter to battery so if you disable such apps will not have any benefit regarding battery life.
  • Using the same charger: using the same charger that company provides you is a good idea but not the best. Of Course some very cheap chargers may destroy your battery life but some good chargers may even get your battery life better and might even charge your phone faster.

So in conclusion I would like to add that sustainable use of energy is very necessary in today’s world. And when it comes to devices that we use almost every time like our smartphones we should take special care of the sustainable use because we can save more for others and our future generation.

How a touchscreen works?

0

Sometimes when I really think about the journey from the apes in the jungle to the robots at mars a lot of feelings of surprise, amazement and enthusiasm rush through my veins. In the world of technology when we are ambitious about robots, ironman’s suit, genetics, bio-weapons, nuclear powers and much more. I am sure not only me but almost every one of us is amazed and surprised by the results and applications of daily discoveries and new inventions. This amazement and surprise generally attracts us towards the science part behind that magical device.

Today we are going to talk about the science behind one of the most common magical device that we are always stuck to. Yes!!! You guessed it right its none other than our smartphone. As we all know it comprises thousands of features even there was a time when wireless calling, video sharing, video calling etc. were the concepts which can only be seen in science fiction movies.

So today almost every one of us is carrying a touch screen smartphone. But have you ever wondered how it work and theory behind it. Of Corse you have; so as usual we are here to help you with the complete theory.

How a touchscreen works?

How a touchscreen works?

So to start with there are many touch screen technologies like: resistive, projected capacitive, surface capacitive, optical imaging, acoustic etc. but the technology that we generally use in our touchscreen smartphones is either resistive or either capacitive.

Both resistive and capacitive technologies have its own merits and demerits so we will study both the technologies and then you can decide which one is best for you.

We will also focus on the latest updates of technology like in-cell and on-cell technology. And then we will explore more about the super awesome technology that is the 3D Touch by APPLE.

Also read : 10 Best Phones for Senior Citizens

RESISTIVE TOUCH

As the name says resistive touch it really resist your touch and when you press the screen you can feel the screen to be slightly pressed just like a button is pressed.

There are 2 layers in resistive touch screen:

  1. Conductive layer
  2. Resistive layer

And these 2 layers are separated by tiny dots called spacers.

Current flows through the conductive layer at all time but when we touch the resistive layer comes in contact with conductive layer. Thus the electric current changes at that point of contact so as ohms law:

V=IR

So the function corresponding to that point(x, y) is activated.

Advantages of resistive touch are:

  1. More durable and consistent
  2. Stylus can be used

Disadvantages of resistive touch are:

  1. Harder to read due to multiple layers which reflects more ambient light
  2. Less smooth as compared to capacitive touch

Examples of resistive touch smartphones are:

Sony EricssonSatioResistive
NokiaN97Resistive
NokiaN97 MiniResistive
Nokia5800 XpressMusicResistive

CAPACITIVE TOUCH

Unlike resistive touch technology capacitive touch does not work on the pressure of your finger. It works with anything which possess an electric charge along with your skin.

Capacitive touch screens are made up of materials like copper or indium tin oxide. These screens contains electric charges like electrostatic grids of tiny wire. Each wire is as small as a human hair.

In capacitive touch we have:

  1. A glass substrate(nowadays its generally gorilla glass)
  2. A conductive layer
  3. A protective coating
  4. A controller
  5. 4 electrodes 1 at each corner

So the electrodes apply a low voltage to the conductive layer creating a uniform electrostatic field.

When a finger touches the screen a small electric charge is transverse to the finger to complete the circuit creating a voltage drop at that point (x, y) on the screen. The location of this voltage drop is recorded by the controller.

Advantages of capacitive touch are:

  1. Multiple fingers can be detected
  2. Smooth touch

Disadvantages of capacitive touch are:

  1. Cannot be used after wearing gloves

Examples of capacitive touch smartphones are:

HTCHeroCapacitive
HTCMagicCapacitive
Huawei/T-MobilePulseCapacitive
MotorolaMilestoneCapacitive
SamsungGalaxyCapacitive

ON-CELL and IN-CELL TECHNOLOGIES

So there are some improvement in the technology by using two new methods known as on-cell and in-cell technologies.

So let us explore both of them:

On-cell technology: actually moving the touch technology onto the outer glass layer.
EXAMPLES of phones with on-cell technology are – Samsung’s Super AMOLED, used in Samsung’s high-end phones such as the Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Nexus.

In-cell technology: to put the touch sensors into the actual display panel.
EXAMPLES of phones with in-cell technology are – Apple’s iPhone 5 and Sony’s Xperia P.

ADVATAGES of using on-cell and in-cell technology are:

  • Slimmer phone
  • Better colour saturation- the light does not pass through the different layers

3D Touch

One of the most difficult technologies that apple have engineered is 3D Touch so let us have a detail analysis of this technology.

The best feature of 3D touch is it can sense and differentiate a soft and a hard touch.

How Does 3D Touch Work

There are sensors installed in the display known as the strain gauges, which detects the force generated by the pressure of touch of your fingers.

The 3D Touch is very sensitive in detecting the levels of touch. The haptic technology which simplifies vibrations in touch with the help of a “Taptic Engine”, allows the 3D Touch to differentiate between a soft touch, tap and a hold press.

So mainly 3D Touch technology combines capacitive touch technology+ strain gauges+ taptic engine.

All of this happens in a fraction of a second which provides you the amazing experience of 3D Touch.

Advantages of 3D touch are:

  1. Totally awesome experience with multiple hidden features

Examples of 3D touch smartphones are:

  • I-phone 6S
  • I-phone 7
  • I-phone 7+

At conclusion I would like to add that we love the enthusiasm in you please always ask how, why, when and keep the spark alive in you. Because your spark will surely enlighten the world in the coming future.
