Due to the pandemic, The Ministry of Economy, South Korea and Finance-Korea Startup Forum will be hosting their third Digital Economic Forum 2020 (DEF2020) online on 11th September 2020.

This forum is designed to create a platform to create awareness of digital transformation and also share the knowledge using their public-private cooperation.

Digital Economy Forum 2020 (DEF2020) will be virtually held on 11th September 2020

This is the 3rd edition of the Digital Economy Forum. It will be focused on the digital economy which is the fuel for innovation in the COVID-19 pandemic. It is having theme of POST-CORONA DIGITAL ECONOMY – Accelerating Digital Transformation for Genuine Innovation.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance is lead by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Hong Nam-ki and Korea Startup Forum is lead by Chairman Seunggun Lee.

Digital Economy Forum 2020

This virtual conference will be full of panel discussions, key note speeches and also case presentations on innovative startups. The focus of these startups will be on the topics: Healthcare, Digital Transformation & Policy, Media & Entertainment and Work & Job.

These are some of the topics which needs to be addressed post-coronavirus era. 20+ Global opinion leaders and experts from government, startups & academia will be joining as speakers sharing their valuable insights.

Keynote Sessions:

  1. “Post-Corona Digital Economy – Accelerating Digital Transformation for Genuine Innovation” by Peter Diamandis, Innovator & Entrepreneur. Founder of XPrize Foundation and Singularity University. The session will be followed by Q&A session.
  2. “Solutions & Strategies related to digital economy in the time of Digital Transformation & Contactless Economy” by Andrew Wycoff, Director of Science, Technology and Innovation at OECD.

Sessions

There will be various sessions held in the Forum covering various aspects. The sessions have been partnered with globally known specialized institutes and organizations.

There will be 3 major sessions conducted in the Forum. These sessions are focused on respective themes, which include:

Session 1 : Digital Transformation & Policy

This session will be focused on the changes in the Digital Economy System and Digital Transformation trends after the outbreak of the pandemic. It will be on the details on the right direction of the digital economy and “new deal” policy which the Korean Government recently announced.

Sungjin Choi, Executive Director of Korea Startup Forum will be the moderator. The panelists will include Taesik Yoon, Director for Policy Coordination at the Ministry of Economy and Finance; Arvind Gupta, co-founder of Digital India Foundation, and Christos Makridis, Digital Fellow of MIT Sloan School of Management. These panelists will share the global cases and also identify implications for Korea in this session.

Session 2: The Future of Entertainment and New Media

This session is jointly designed with The Miilk, a media startup which showcases innovative technologies from Silicon Valley. This session will be moderated by Insoon Kim, MD of The Miilk Korea. The panelists include Steve Lee, CEO of AmazeVR, a Korean startup active in Silicon Valley; Jinha Lee, Co-founder of SPATIAL; and Jaekwon Son, CEO of The Miilk. They will predict changes in the media and entertainment sectors. They will talk about the contactless environment in this sector and will talk about how user experience might evolve. It will be virtually organized as the panelists will be in a contactless environment, wearing VR devices, which will be broadcasted online in real-time to the audience.

Session 3: Work & Jobs

The changes caused by the technology development in terms of work life and also new ways of work and collaboration between robots and human.  Veikko Väyrynen, Vice President of Aaltoes; Finnish education startup Claned; Joseph Kim, the Head of Robotics Business at Woowa Brothers; and Donghwan Kim, CEO of 42MARU will be participating in the discussion.

Session 4: Healthcare

This session is joined planned with ITU-WHO focus Group of AI4Health which plays a leading role in the global healthcare sector. Sameer Pujari, Co-founder of Be He@lthy Be Mobile Initiative at WHO; will be moderating the session. Panelists include Naomi Lee, Senior Executive Editor of The Lancet; Brandon B, Suh, CEO of Lunit; and Yong Gi Jung, Vice Director of Medical AI Research Center in Samsung Medical Center. This panel will be discussing the changes and outlook of the healthcare industry after this COVID-19 pandemic.

Special Session

This session will be introducing startups which are coming up with innovative products & services by rapidly responding to this COVID-19 pandemic. Nowbusking Company that expanded support for small business owners through its contactless service in the wake of COVID-19; Medihere that introduced remote video medical consultation; 24MARU, a QA artificial intelligence startup; Tosslab which operates a remote business collaboration tool; and Lunit, an AI-based healthcare startup, will share their innovative service and business insights in responding to the COVID-19.

Digital Economy Forum started in November 2018 and this is their 3rd year.
