Samsung Galaxy J7 Overview

We have heard a lot about the Samsung smartphones. But these days only high end smartphones from Samsung are doing well in the market like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the edge devices. Does these mid range smartphones like Samsung Galaxy J7 are impacting the market? Is it the right device for you in this price bracket? Well let us find that out in an analysis talking about all the aspects of this device.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Overview

Design

This phone, especially the gold variant is what we look forward to. It is having curved corners. The phone is having a shining chrome rim along the sides of the device. From front we see a front camera above the screen with flash. There is a proximity sensor near to the ear piece. There is a physical home button below the display. There are touch buttons like the recent apps and back touch button placed on Left and right hand side of the home button of the device.

The Power/Lock Button is placed on the right hand side and the volume rocker buttons are placed on the left hand side of the device. Surprisingly there is nothing at the top of the smartphone. It is having a 3.5mm audio jack which is placed below the phone with a microUSB port. The thickness of the device is 7.5mm. The use of polycarbonate back cover might help the users for a good grip.

This is a heavy phone, having a weight of 171g. There is a rear camera with LED flash next to it. There is also a loudspeaker grill which is next to camera which is very interesting to see. The branding of 4G and Duos can be seen at the bottom of the back panel of the device. When we open the back panel we can see the sim card slots and a microSD card slot with the battery slot.

The build quality of the phone seems to be nice with that weight and design for sure.

Display

This phone is having a 5.5 inch super AMOLED screen with 1280 x 720 pixels of screen resolution which accounts to 267 PPI. The phone`s display is said to be comfortable in good viewing angles and the sunlight visibility is good as per many users. The phone is missing ambient light sensor which helps in adjusting the brightness according to the surroundings.

Few of our readers have said that after using the phone, you can see smudges on the screen as it is very glossy. Though you can wipe off the smudges with ease with a cloth.

Camera

This device is equipped with a 13MP rear camera with AF and f/1.9 aperture. The camera has many modes like the Continuous shot, beauty face, sound and shot, HDR and sports, etc. This camera is capable of recording videos of 1080p full HD resolution at 30fps. Though this phone lacks slow motion recording.

Memory

Galaxy J7 is having 1.5GB of RAM. There is 16GB of internal storage out of which 11.6GB is available for the user. The user can use a microSD card of upto 128GB in this device. This phone is using 1.5GHz Octa Core Exynos 7580 which is a 64 bit SoC processor coupled with ARM Cortex A53 CPU. This is Samsung`s own processor and would had run better to its optimum use if the phone had 2GB of RAM.

Software

This phone is using Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Samsung`s own UI on top of it. There are two themes and others are paid ones. Though Android users love free themes or they use other apps for sure.

Connectivity

This is a dual SIM smartphone. It is having 4G connectivity support as well. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and OTG support.

In Box Accessories

The smartphone is found in the box of the device, earphones, charger, micro USB cable, warranty information, quick start guide and a battery. These are the only accessories in the box. Though people expect more like screen guard or flip cover with device as some Indian manufacturers are providing them with the smartphones.

Battery

This phone is having a battery capacity of 3000mAh. The phone is able to give a performance of atleast a single day of normal use for sure.

Our Observation

The phone is having decent display, battery and performance. Though average camera quality and loudspeaker output is questionable of this budget smartphone. Though at this budget this phone beats some of the competitors for sure.
