When we look the phone at first we get to see that the phone is having a huge screen. Yes it is a phablet having a 5.5 inch display. Generally there are volume rocker buttons and lock buttons on the sides but, the latest devices in the zenfone series have something different. The volume rocker buttons are at the back of the smartphone, just below the rear camera.
Flash is seen left side of the rear camera and the laser auto focus system is situated on the right side of the rear camera. There is ASUS branding below the volume rocker buttons. There are speakers below the ASUS branding at the back of the smartphone. The lock or the power ON/OFF button is situated on the top side of the handset. This is a 5.5 inch display and as said earlier this smartphone comes under the phablet category. The screen resolution is 1280×720 pixels. This accounts to 267.02 PPI (Pixels per inch). A massive display is always a treat while playing HD games and watching movies.
This phone is using a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Processor. This device is having 2 GB of RAM. We did a lot of multi-tasking on this device and it responded well. So even while playing games you can easily check your WhatsApp with ease without any lag. Also we tried to do multiple things at a time and because of the huge RAM it did respond well. The overall performance of the phone was satisfactory.
A massive 13 MP rear camera is geared up at the rear with dual LED flash and yes with laser focus. There is also a 5MP front camera for clicking selfies. There are various modes in this camera. These modes are: Auto, Manual, HDR, Beautification, Super Resolution, Low Light, Night, Depth of Field, Effect, Selfie, GIF Animation, Panorama, Miniature, Time Rewind Smart Remove, All Smiles, Slow Motion and Time Lapse.
Using the camera of the phone is very easy. The autofocus of the camera is very quick. So it does give a feel of a point and shoot camera. This is very important part of the phone. It uses infrared laser which bounces off from the object and come back to the camera. This helps to calibrate the distance from the camera to the object. Overall we got impressed with the laser functionality of this camera.
Autofocus functionality: vs High end smartphones?
So we compared it with some of the high end smartphones available in the market. Now we have compared only the AutoFocus feature of the device with other phones, the result was surprising. When we compare the Autofocus of ASUS Zenfone 2 LAser with Samsung Galaxy Note 5, we found that the laser phone performs better. While compared it to LG G3 it was like a similar speed of autofocusing. So this feature of the phone when compared to other high end devices performs better. At a price of just below INR 10K it gives you the power of a function which is superior than that of the few high end devices having price of more than INR 50K.
