It was first unveiled July 2014 and went on sale in August 2014 in China. It was introduced as the cheapest fitness tracker available on the market. Xiaomi has come up with an introductory offer where the first 1000 users to register on Xiaomi can get the tracker for only Re.1. The registration for the offer begins on April 28th. The Mi Band can be used as a sleep tracking device with many useful features like the silent alarm as well as for keeping record of and achieving fitness goals.

The battery backup is an impressive 30 days after a single full charge. The tracker has a number of features like the fitness monitor, and sleep tracker. The band has IP67 ratings for its water resistance, so it can even be worn while swimming or in the shower. The tracker’s core is a removable polycarbonate unit which is 14×36 x9mm and weighs just 5 gm.

The core has ADI’s MEMS Accelerometer sensors and Dialog DA14580 low-power Bluetooth chip which is programmable to make it store data when it isn’t connected to smartphone and is also compliant with the Bluetooth v4.1. It also has a small 41mAh lithium polymer batter, which is tiny (8mm thick).

The Mi Band can be charged with the help of the provided USB cable through the charging port at the bottom of the core. There are 3 LED lights on the top part of the core whose colours can be customized with the tracker app. The tracker doesn’t have or require any buttons, because it pairs automatically with your smartphone, and there’s no need to turn it off.

The core fits into the band made of TPSiV, a silicone material that makes the Mi Band durable. The band is 230mm in length, and is adjustable. There is a small button lock which tightly secures it in place. The strap is available in a variety of colours, besides the basic black version. Xiaomi will also make leather straps available to the Indian market.
