So with this certification, it is evident that LG is continuing their progress in the smart TV security segment. This security is vital in terms of consumer point of view. The consumers need not be worried about the potential privacy breaches for their internet connected devices.
The Security Manager which is the webOS 3.5 security software module was tested according to the rigid benchmarks of the Common Criteria. This is an international standard security certification which the company has achieved for the security of their Smart TV webOS 3.5.
This was gone through rigorous testing which included application installation protection, application execution protection and the application content protection with DRM (Digital Rights Management) encryption.
The OS blocks the installation of unauthorized apps by having a digital signature verification process. The LG App Store server ensures that the webOS 3.5 installs applications downloaded only from the LG App Store. With the increased DRM license verification process it helps to decrypt the encrypted content inside the RAM and creates a clean backup of the encrypted content in the flash memory.
This is a great step by the company and a good news for the brand and its smart TV consumers. Security is an important concern and with this certification, the trust among the consumers towards the brand will surely grow in the Smart TV segment.
