I would like to share my experience with you which could help you in
solving your WhatsApp problems.
The basic problem of WhatsApp not running on your S40 phone might be the compatibility issues of WhatsApp application with your phone's software.

Hence I recommend you to follow the following steps for a complete
WhatsApp installation on your phone.
Step 1 :- First and foremost download Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC.

Step 2 :- After the Suite installation connect your phone to the PC,
take the backup of all the
important data of
your phone on your PC using Nokia Ovi Suite.
Step 3 :- Now you need to make a hard reset of your phone's software.
This can be done by typing
*#7370# and then
pressing the call button.
Step 4 :- Follow the mentioned instructions and complete the reset.
Step 5 :- After reset is done, again connect your phone to the PC and
connect to the Internet. Open
Nokia Ovi Suite and
type WhatsApp Messenger as a search query.
Step 6 :- You would get theaccurate search result. Press on Download
& Install to download
WhatsApp
application setup on your phone.
Step 7 :- After Downloading the setup, keep it as it. DO NOT RUN THE
SETUP ON YOUR
PHONE.
Step 8 :- Now follow the following instructions as per your mobile
provider -
A.
For “Airtel” or “Tata
Docomo” users :
1. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Preferred Access Point. Select Mobile Office.
2. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default config settings. Delete the config settings.
3. Reboot your phone.

3. Reboot your phone.
B.
For “BSNL” users:
1. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Preferred Access Point. Select BSNLLIVE.
2. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default config settings. Delete the config settings.
3. Reboot your phone.

2. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default config settings. Delete the config settings.
3. Reboot your phone.
C.
For “Vodafone” users :
1. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Preferred Access Point. Select Vodafone Mobile Connect.
2. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default config settings. Delete the config settings.
3. Reboot your phone.

2. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default config settings. Delete the config settings.
3. Reboot your phone.
D.
For “Idea” users:
1. Go to Settings -> Configuration -> Default Config Settings and select Idea Internet
2. Go back to Configuration and then to Preferred access pt, and select Idea Internet
3. Restart your phone.

Step 9 :- After the reboot is done, NOW run the
WhatsApp setup and complete the installation.
Possible problems faced -
I. During the installation you might face an HTTP
Server #54 Error. In that case the Internet of your mobile phone might not be
activated or the mobile provider's server might be down. In such a case contact
your mobile provider's customer care and reboot your phone again. Start the
installation again using the WhatsApp setup downloaded.
II. You might receive an HTTP Server #61 Error. In
this case delete the existing WhatsApp setup and reinstall it using the Ovi
Suite.
Some quick tips you might need -
I. There is a case where your WhatsApp installation
might complete successfully but still you might not be able to use it. In such
a situation inform your friends (who are using WhatsApp) to send you messages
from WhatsApp continuously. There is a possibility that due to overloading of
receiving messages, your WhatsApp might automatically get connected to the chat
server.
II. During the WhatsApp installation process on your phone it might ask you for mobile verification number. After pressing OK even if you don't receive the verification code don't worry, your WhatsApp might run successfully on your phone without the verification. You can later complete the verification by following the given process:

For the process of complete verification of your number, send SMS to
1(408) 306-2615*from* the mobile number you tried to register with for WhatsApp
and type your email address ONLY in the SMS message.
For example : contact@technary.com (the automated system will send you the code via email once we they receive your SMS).

I followed these steps and I now can properly use WhatsApp on my Nokia C3 phone.
