The Basics of Dreamweaver MX Windows:

Dreamweaver MX is has a visual interface similar to Microsoft Word or any other word processing system. Dreamweaver MX has numerous windows categorized into two types.

* In Document windows, you create a Web page much in the same way that you create a document in Microsoft Word. That is, you use WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) windows to create the document content and edit it.
* Various Panel windows contain the tools to format the document content. For example, it is possible to add bulleted lists, numbered lists, set fonts, and perform nearly the same formatting tasks that you would perform in Microsoft Word or any other word processing system. Panel windows also allow you to manage the Web site itself. In this document, we address only a subset of the available Panel windows.

Document Windows:

The purpose of a Document window is to edit the content of a Web page. Dreamweaver MX allows multiple Document windows to be open at the same time. Each open Document window represents an open HTML document file. Conceptually, the process of editing multiple HTML documents (Web pages) with Dreamweaver MX is no different than editing multiple documents with Word. Each Document window appears in one of three possible views as described in the following list:

* In Code view, Dreamweaver MX displays the actual HTML markup and content.
* In Design view, Dreamweaver MX displays a representation of the document as the user will see it viewed in a Web browser. Note that subtle formatting differences exist between the document represented in Dreamweaver MX and what the user will see in a Web browser.

Anybody can create a business without one. In theory, anyone can toil away, providing their client base with the best in service and/or products - relying on word of mouth to expand. STEP 1: Establish needs and criteria for the design.

The basic layout of almost all HTML web pages is controlled using tables. Dreamweaver makes table creation easier and much less time consuming than hand coding.

BASIC TABLE CREATION RULES

There are a few rules that, if followed, will make your table building life much happier.

1. Columns width needs to be the same all the way down. You cant have a cell one width and the cell above or below it a different width. This is a basic rule of HTML.
The problem is that Dreamweaver will allow you to manually input different widths for different cells in a the same column. Dont do it. The browser will freak out when it tries to open your page.
Ive found that this is the biggest error Dreamweaver newbies make when building tables. If your tables are freaking out, click in each cell in each column. Make sure they either have the same width, or no width at all.
2. Read rule number one again. Its an important one.
3. If things get complicated, use nested tables instead of merging cells. A nested table is a table kept in another table. Nested tables are much easier to deal with than merged cells.
4. Draw your table by hand before attempting to build it in Dreamweaver. Adding or removing cells and rows can sometimes be problematic after tables start getting complicated.

Basic Shortcut Commands for Photoshop

* H (Hand Tool) — When zoomed in to a portion of your photo, this command brings up the hand tool which allows for quick panning. Also, if the hand tool is active and you hold down the Ctrl key, you can zoom in without changing to the zoom tool. Likewise, if you hold down the Alt key, you can zoom out without changing tools.
* Z (Zoom Tool) — This command just brings up the zoom tool, which allows you to zoom in. Like with the hand tool, if you hold down the Alt key, it temporarily switches to the zoom out mode.
* Ctrl + 0 (Fit on Screen) — This is a quick-and-dirty command to get the entire photo in front of your eyes. That’s Ctrl + zero, not the letter “O”.
* B (Brush Tool) — The brush is an extremely useful tool when working with masks, and I’m constantly using this command along with the hand and zoom tools.
* Ctrl + Z (Undo) — Very useful for the little mistakes we all make.

The Patch tool is one of the quickest and most effective ways to retouch images in Photoshop. Retouching is the process of altering a photo or an image, usually to remove imperfections, such as spots, stains, and other flaws.

The Main Uses of the Patch Tool
The Patch tool is typically used for three main retouching tasks:

* Retouching portraits of people: The Patch tool makes it easy to remove wrinkles, freckles, blemishes, dark circles under the eyes, shiny skin, and other imperfections that commonly show up in portraits of people.
* Repairing old photos: Over time, printed photos degrade: they can develop cracks, spots, fading, and discoloration. The process of scanning and digitizing old photos or negatives introduces even more flaws—as the scanner scans the photo, it also typically captures dust, hair, and other particles on the scanner bed itself. The Patch tool helps you resolve all of these problems with only a few clicks.

For instance, if you’re working with an image of a sunset that has a group of dust spots in the sky, you can select the dust spots and then replace that area of the image with a part of the sky nearby that’s dust-free. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how the Patch tool works:

1. With the Patch tool active, you select the flawed area that you’d like to fix.
2. Once you complete your selection, a boundary of “marching ants” (a moving dotted line) appears around it.
3. You click on the selected area and, still holding down the mouse button, move the mouse to a clean part of the image. A duplicate of the original selection’s boundary replaces the cursor as you move the mouse.
4. The original selection stays highlighted and changes as you move around the image—the pixels in the duplicate selection replace those in the original selection on the fly.
5. When you come upon an area with pixels that you’d like to use to replace those in the original selection, you release the mouse button.
6. Photoshop then automatically merges the overall traits of the original, flawed area, such as lighting, texture, and shading, with the new pixels you’re using to fix that area. The result is a seamless patch that eliminates the original imperfections.

Patterns and the Patch Tool

In addition to replacing one part of an image with pixels from another part of that image, you can also use the Patch tool to replace a problematic part of an image with a pattern from Photoshop’s built-in pattern library, or with a pattern that you design. This feature comes in handy when you’d just like to apply a certain pattern to your selection, such as a canvas or tiled texture, rather than applying “clean” pixels to that selection.

Advantages of the Patch Tool

Several other Photoshop tools besides the Patch tool, such as the Healing Brush tool and the Clone Stamp tool, can be used for routine retouching tasks. But the Patch tool has unique features that make it particularly good for:

* Repairing large areas: The Patch tool is the only retouching tool that lets you define and select the entire area that you’d like to repair. This makes it easy to fix problems throughout a large portion of an image with just a few clicks. Making similar repairs with other retouching tools can require many more steps.
* Previewing your fixes: The Patch tool is the only retouching tool that lets you preview the results of your retouching before you actually change the problematic area. For instance, if you’re trying to replace a blemish on a person’s nose with clear skin, with the Patch tool you can see ahead of time whether the “new” skin will actually blend well within the context of the other skin on the person’s nose. With other tools, you’ll often have to undo and redo steps in order to get just the right result, which can be tedious and time-consuming.

Photoshop: Darkroom Tools

The Dodge, Burn, and Sponge tools are similar to conventional darkroom tools. You use a Dodge tool to stop the light from reaching the sensitised paper and then that part of the image will be lighter. The Burn tool has the opposite effect, you allow extra light to reach the paper which darkens areas of the image. The sponge applies extra or concentrated chemicals to selected areas, this intensifies the effect. If you have any experience in the darkroom then these tools will be second nature. Photoshop simulates the tools very accurately, although you should exercise care when using the tools, to avoid your images looking unnatural.

The Dodge Tool

Use this tool to lighten dark areas, choose Shadows, Midtones or Highlights and apply an exposure value. Choose an appropriate size brush and paint over the areas to be lightened - be careful not to over apply the strokes otherwise the brushed image area will start to wash out. The default setting is 50%, try a lower value with a soft edged brush for a subtle effect. On the sample picture below, the steam has been lightened.

The Burn Tool

Similar in operation as the Dodge tool, but this time the image areas are darkened. Apply short strokes rather than scrubbing, this way you can apply an undo (Ctrl+Z). Here's a darkroom trick, darken the edges and corners of an image, this makes the central part stand out and it works on digital pictures too.

The Sponge Tool

This has two options, Saturate and Desaturate. Brush over an area to intensify the colours or reduce them. The strength of both is determined by the flow value.
